January 1 10:00 AM New Year’s Day Service or Shushho-e Service

This is the first service of the new year and we pray for our safety, happiness and world peace. Sermon by Rev. Narashiba (in English).

January 3 10:00 AM Sunday Service

First Sunday Service for new year. Guest Speaker: Ashley Mizuo, Recipient of 2014 Namiye Nakamura Scholarship, who will speak about her 1st year in college.

January 10 10:00 AM Sunday Service

First Family Service for New Year. Sermon by Rev. Narashiba (in English).

January 17 10:00 AM Sunday Gyoki-e Service

Memorial service for Honen Shonin who is the founder of Jodo Shu. He passed away on January 25, 1212 at the age of 80 years old. You may honor your deceased anscestors with a Chutoba prayer. Chutoba order forms are available in our January 2016 Bulletin.

Guest Speakers: Betsy Young and Les Goto, who are volunteers with the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. They will talk about the Honoouliuli Internment Camp and other stories they have head about the internment during World War II.

January 24 10:00 AM Sunday Service

Sermon by Bishop Gensho Hara in English.

10:30 AM General Membership Meeting (conducted by Kyodan President Jon Riki Karamatsu)

January 2016 Newsletter

Guest Speakers for January 2016 at Jodo Mission of Hawaii

Sunday, January 3, 2016 at 10 a.m.

Guest Speaker: Ashley Mizuo was the 2014 Namiye Nakamura Scholarship recipient (Hawaii Jodo Shu Rengo Fujinkai). She will tell us her experience the first year of college at Loyola University in Chicago.

Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 10 a.m.

Guest Speakers: Betsy Young and Les Goto, volunteers at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. They will come to our Sunday Service to speak to us about the Honouliuli Internment Camp. This internment camp is one of the largest which interned many Japanese Americans and it was opened in 1943 and closed in 1946. They will also speak about the internment and about the various Jodo Shu ministers who were interned.
